it’s mid-june and the studio is busy, my mind is running crazy, the coffee machine has definitely got it’s use & i’m knee deep in proposals. as much as it is exhausting…there’s something really special about the middle of the season & that’s because it always refreshes, reminds & inspires me of all the beautiful ways that you can make your day yours! lately i’ve been asked the question on where you should splurge vs. save on your wedding flowers, so let’s dive in on my take. 

to begin, because everyone’s opinion is different…this is my take & where i feel like your flowers can make the most impact and where you can save a little bit as well. these opinions definitely vary based on your space because a lot of impact can come from ensuring that your flowers fit and feel perfect for your space but here’s a list of where i personally would splurge on my wedding flowers, and why. 

1. the bridal bouquet: something that you get to hold & carry as the best accessory for your day, all day. i like to think of it as an extension of you & it’s something that can remind you of your day forever and ever when you get to look back at the blooms that your hands carried to and through your i do. 
2. the bar & gathering places: one of the most visited spots on your day, a space where you can typically go for something fun & full of statement blooms pieces & sure to stop, strike and create a space that you and your guests remember. spaces like your bar, seating chart display, welcome signs & similar. 
3. the ceremony: a space that encourages you, your guests & even the little birds + bees around you to pause, sit & appreciate the beautiful love story that is about to officially begin as husband and wife. throughout your day it can feel crazy, fast-paced & busy but your ceremony is a space that will be appreciated, admired & adored on the day and thereafter. 

now that i’ve covered the top spaces that i would splurge, let’s see where i would personally choose to save or use your budget elsewhere: 

1. boutonnieres & small family personals: yes, a small boutonniere doesn’t seem like a lot in your budget…but when you’re adding upwards of 4, 5 or 6 of these items they start to add up. sure, they look great & make your parents & grandparents happy, but they’re out of water all day, smushed in the bro-hugs by the groomsmen & often get left at the dinner table once the dance floor gets hot!
2. cocktail tables: few & small tables in a space that is focused on conversation, connection and celebration after the i do! these tables are also typically used for maybe an hour and that bud vase or mini centerpiece that you’re thinking could be totally allocated for a more full looking space in your reception or elsewhere! 
3. imported & out of season blooms: though this isn’t a specific space, it’s something that is important when it comes to saving on your wedding flowers. choosing a florist that knows what’s in season, growing local & will give you the most out of your budget is important! flower costs can really add up anytime you’re importing things from other states & from other countries it gets even more expensive, invest in a color palette, textural favorites & a design concept rather than a specific flower + a florist you can trust to execute your vision with in-season flowers.

now, before anyone goes changing their whole mind on their flowers and listening to the things that i personally see the most value in, remember that the beauty of all of this is that each and every wedding is it’s own celebration with it’s own values, characteristics & design elements that matter to each individual couple. my advice to you most of all would be to choose a florist & vendors you love that will execute exactly what you love in your design too.  

getting to celebrate your day, no matter how, where or what flowers i’m using will always be the greatest joy for me and it’s something that i will never get sick of. long story short, choose what you love! <3
